Hello!
I want to personally welcome you to Div.vy, where you will be amazed by what you and your students can do!
With a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I have always been focused on the "what and how" of teaching. Over time, it became very clear that the how of teaching had the most profound impact on student success.
My passion for teaching shifted to a driving passion to create confident, independent learners, regardless of age. For me, there is nothing as exciting as watching a class of first graders tackle multisyllabic words, or an adult with dyslexia discovering the joy of reading and writing. In my 39 years of teaching, I've had the opportunity to do both. Now, I would love the opportunity to share what I've learned with you!

The Div.vy Story
Having taught at all elementary grade levels, and spending years teaching only reading, I began to wonder why intermediate and GT students had no idea how to tackle the multisyllabic words they encountered when reading. I realized we were busy teaching students vocabulary, in lieu of giving them the means to read and understand new words independently.
The truth is
1. The secret to independent reading and writing is abandoned after grade 2.
2. What is taught in grades 1 and 2, is missing the key component of our
language's fundamental structure, stripping it of it's unlimited potential for readers and writers of
all ages and needs.
3. A simple pivotal shift is all that is needed.
4. The impact of that instructional shift can be realized in as little as 2-3 weeks.

Div.vy Reading was born.
​
The first full implementation of the Div.vy approach was with a class of 4th grade IEP, 504, and SST students. Divvy was integrated into the existing reading program. The students' progress was monitored monthly to ensure that they were making gains. The early monthly results fanned a flame. The students were now eager to learn, making steady gains, and becoming enthusiastic readers. By year's end, every student was on or above grade level. It was just the beginning.
